The only ’10-Minute Rule’ you should know about and use

A multi-millionaire friend once told me a secret on how he consistently delivers his best work.

In this essay, I will tell you how he does it. But first, let me tell you what effect his secret Rule had on my own work:

  • I spot more errors in my work and writing.
  • My sentences flow better while writing.
  • I’m able to eliminate a lot of fluff.
  • And finally, I get to the point.

The 10-Minute Rule explained

It’s a simple but powerful rule, and you should take it seriously. The Rule states that you should always take 10 minutes of extra time after you feel like your work is done. You’ll use these minutes to review your work.

The exact moment when you think something’s done, you activate the Rule. You set a timer and take 10 more minutes. It’s that simple.***

My friend uses the Rule for important work, for instance, a business proposal, a pitch, a piece of writing, anything with a high potential positive outcome.

The Rule in action

From the moment I first heard the Rule, I became a fan. I use it for everything. For example, every post I wrote in 2022 was reviewed using the 10-minute Rule.

It’s fantastic because:

  1. It’s simple,
  2. It’s easy to execute, and finally,
  3. It has a measurable and immediate impact on my work.

I’m at the point where my brain goes in hyperdrive when I initiate the 10-minute Rule. I think I’ve primed myself at this point. I love it.

I highly recommend you try it out for your upcoming writing, proposal or work in general. I hope it brings you great results.

*** This paragraph was added during those final 10 minutes to improve the piece’s flow.
