In January 2020, my former business had 10+ employees and record-breaking earnings. But unfortunately, 18 months later (during the covid pandemic), we only had 3 employees left, and revenues were dwindling.
The business has bounced back tremendously and is doing better than ever, but back then, the company was in great distress. The company could have failed, and we could have gone bankrupt right then and there, but I wasn’t fearful at the time.
I wasn’t afraid because I was standing in the eye of the storm.
The storm was all around me, but where I was standing, it was calm, the sky was blue, and everything was peaceful.
I heard the screeching winds in the distance, but I felt no fear.
Waves were crashing on the shores while I was proud of my accomplishments.
I heard thunder strike as loud as the effort I had put into the company.
Like the storm, I would move heaven and earth to be where I needed to be.
No one can take that away from me.
I could stand in the eye of the storm because I had been there before, and I had survived many times.
And so we sailed on and weathered the storm and learned some valuable lessons along the way.
Here are some words I silently repeat to myself when fear of failure does creep up on me:
- The more I act, the more I fail.
- The more I fail, the more comfortable I get with failure.
- The more I fail, the smaller my ego becomes.
- The more I fail, the more people I meet.
- The more I fail, the more I learn.
- The more I fail, the easier it becomes to start over.
- The more I fail, the fewer things and money I need in my life.
- The more I fail, the happier I stay during uncertain times.
- The more I fail, the larger my chances of success.
I hope you can find your calm amidst the storm.
Until that day comes, breath in, breath out.
You will be okay.
