Business is just the thing you do to fund the next level
Business is a game. Most of us play this game, some do not participate, and some play it exceptionally well. I want to play it well. That is my goal.
To do so, I try to view the world of business as a computer game. It’s a game where you are the designer and the player simultaneously.
In your game, you have levels. Every level has an objective. Finish the objective, and you’re off to the next level.
With every step, you get better ‘gear’, your reputation increases, your skills increase, you meet new characters, and most importantly, you’ll have more resources to allocate to the subsequent level.
My current level is building a business ‘that I love’ that grants me enough free cash flow. When I’ve reached the level of enough cash flow, my next level begins—the level where I enjoy loads of time for parenting and investing in projects that excite me.
Seeing your life as a game will help you to:
- Mentally detach from your business. My ego and self-worth were too intertwined with my business.
- See the people around you as fellow gamers that are all trying to win at their level. They are not out there to get you or to annoy you. They’re just playing their own game and you are an NPC in their game.
- See that everyone wants to win at their own game.
Questions to take with you:
- What is your current level?
- What is the main objective of your current level?
- How does this goal support you into your next level?
